We’ll meet a groyne!

Firstly, thanks to our reader Pete who responded to our call for groyne pun headlines. We love it! Work is progressing well on building new flood defences in the area around Southsea Castle. The next phase of marine work is the construction of the new groyne. This is a rock structure that juts out into the sea to limit erosion of the beach near the Pyramids. We're planning to begin work on this from 20 March and run until June 2023. It's hoped that by starting this work in March ahead of schedule, the groyne will be complete before summer. During construction there will be night working and there may be some greater noise than normal. Construction will take place both day and night as the work needs to be undertaken at low tide. We appreciate your support of the ongoing flood defence improvements, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience.
