Weekly update – 3 December 2021

I can see clearly now….

This week we removed the hoardings from the windows at Brewers Fayre as we prepare to start more work on the new, wider promenade. Just in time for Christmas celebrations overlooking the Solent!

The old walls are the best

Archaeological discoveries abounded this week as we uncovered more original walls – this time on the seaward side of Long Curtain Moat. While it was not a surprise to find this part of the fortifications, it was amazing to see how well preserved they are.

Apron adventures

We are continuing to install the pre cast apron units on the west of the Spur Redoubt, with specially designed units for the curve in the pile line.

Memorial benches at Southsea Castle

Do you – or someone you know – own a memorial bench and plaque in the Southsea Castle area? We are considering plans to temporarily relocate all plaques from this area to a nearby location overlooking the seafront while works are underway. Please contact us to advise if you would like your plaque relocated over this period, otherwise we are happy to store plaques securely until new seating is installed.
