Taking shelter

seafront shelter

Our beloved yellow shelters are now at home on Frontage 3 (Southsea Common). As with the two yellow shelters which are located on Frontage 5 (Pyramids to Speakers’ Corner), there are two of the iconic yellow Victorian shelters on Frontage 3 which have been lovingly refurbished and brought back to their former glory before being placed onto the new promenade.

Run, Southsea, Run!

running team

We joined thousands of runners last weekend when our team of 10 from the Southsea Coastal Scheme ran to raise money for local mental health charity Solent Mind.

The weather was rather damp but our spirits were high, and we are thrilled to have met our fundraising target of £1000. Thank you to everyone who donated and to everyone who braved the weather and cheered us all on.

Piping up…

dredger and pipeline

Our final pipe delivery by sea arrived this week for the upcoming beach recharge. Earlier this month, and now out of sight on the seabed, we installed 516 metres of sinker line (sunken pipeline). This week 130 metres of floating pipeline arrived. This floating pipeline has been attached to the seaward side of the sinker line and is ready for the dredger to connect to when it arrives. Later on when shingle arrives, the pipeline on shore will be connected to the beach end of the sinker line as we progress. Preparations are continuing and the actual shingle will start arriving in mid-November.

Howl-oween Schpooktacular!

schnauzer dog in pumpkin costume

The Halloween treat you weren’t expecting! This Sunday 26th October at 10:30am, we will see more than 100 schnauzers dressed in Halloween costumes taking part in a charity dog walk. The walk will go from Canoe Lake, along our new frontages to Blue Reef Aquarium and back, to raise money for Schnauzerfest. Schnauzerfest is a grant giving charity which supports rescued dogs (from illegal puppy farms/abandonment) and their fosterers/adopters by paying the vet bills so that they can be rehomed and lead a happy life. Pop along for some Halloween cuteness!

Sounds like a plan

town planners visiting southsea seafront

We were honoured to be part of the Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) visit to Portsmouth this week which included a tour of our ‘Theatre of the Sea’ by Southsea Castle with the president of the RTPI Helen Fadipe. The visit highlighted Portsmouth’s transformation in planning performance and celebrated the city’s leadership in coastal resilience. Our planning experts from Coastal Partners and Portsmouth City Council presented to the Institute to share their insights into the collaborative effort that has gone into planning for the UK’s largest local authority led flood defence scheme.
