Weekly update – 18 August 2023

Frontage 5 incoming!

We’ll soon be starting work on our next frontage which will run from the Pyramids to just west of the Baffled coffee kiosk on the promenade. Diversion signs for pedestrians and cyclists are in place. This section will be closed from 2 October 2023 and we’re aiming for it to be complete towards the end of 2024. If you have any questions, please get in contact with us through our website, email southseacoastalscheme@portsmouthcc.gov.uk or come and see us on our roadshow or in the Pier Road project information centre.

Mission not impossible…

We worked last weekend to complete installation of the curved wall in front of Bandstand Field in order to move our large crane in time for the Victorious Festival. As you can see in the photo, the promenade slabs around the ‘Theatre of The Sea’ are also complete up to the start of the curved bandstand wall. Excellent progress over a very busy week!

You can sit with us!

This week saw our roadshow head to Speakers’ Corner near The Briny and we were delighted to meet more than 100 visitors! We had lots of questions about where you will be able to swim during the next closure, and can advise that the beach between South Parade Pier and the Baffled coffee kiosk on the promenade will still be accessible during this phase. Next up, our roadshow will head to Canoe Lake on Wednesday 23 August between 11am – 2pm so look out for our blue gazebo and yellow shirts.

Run Southsea, Run…

We’re raising money for Solent Mind by taking part in the Great South Run. Ten of the team will be put through their paces by running the race for this amazing local charity that provides high quality mental health services to support our local community. A justgiving page has been set up to raise funds for Solent Mind.
