Weekly update – 14 July 2023

Let’s get this show on the road!

We’re taking our project information centre on tour this summer in our Southsea Coastal Scheme gazebo! Look out for us in our yellow polo shirts – we’ll be popping up every Wednesday of the six week summer holidays on different parts of the seafront from 11am – 2pm. We’ll announce in our weekly update and on social media where we’ll be appearing that week and we would love to meet you all and speak to you about the scheme! Stay tuned for details…

Please note: The project information centre on Pier Road will be closed on these days.

Slab happy!

There’s been lots of progress on the pouring of the promenade slabs along the top and bottom of the ‘Theatre of The Sea’ near Southsea Castle this week. So far 30 of the 86 central prom slabs have been completed.

Sharing glee for Frontage 3…

We are inviting you to come and see us at our Frontage 3 drop in events. Frontage 3 will run between Clarence Pier and Blue Reef Aquarium, with work scheduled to start next year.

Join us in our project information centre on Pier Road to learn about the fantastic updated designs and ask any questions that you may have. The drop-in sessions are Wednesday 26 July from 4pm–7pm and Thursday 27 July from 2pm–6pm.

We look forward to seeing you there!

You may remember our Lord Mayor Cllr Tom Coles visited Maizuru in Japan recently for the 25 year  anniversary of Maizuru being a sister city to Portsmouth. During this he was to deliver a brick from an excavated structure we found under the old promenade in front of Southsea Castle to the World Brick Museum. We’re pleased to inform you that the brick, from a structure designed to hold a swivel mount gun in the early nineteenth century, has been safely delivered!

It will sit aside worldwide examples of red brick including one from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard which was donated in 1993.
