Weekly update – 11 December 2020
A week of (mostly) terrible weather hasn’t stopped us firing ahead with our piling work and there’s now only 20m left of old sheet piles to extract to make way for the new sea defence structure! We also completed more than 100m of steel sheet piling on the east side of the Spur Redoubt. Specialist ‘vibration free’ piling equipment has been mobilised for upcoming works.
Next week we will finish forming temporary works protection bund with broken out concrete from the old sea defences, as well as clearing debris, large rocks and material from the beach on the west side.
If you’re around Clarence Pier, come and check out the works via two additional viewing windows in the hoarding at the Saluting Platform and by Brewers’ Fayre where you can get a great view of what’s happening.
With the days getting darker earlier, we have erected lighting towers for the benefit of those using the footpath diversion around our Pier Road compound. In other developments at this compound, we’ve installed security CCTV cameras and continue making progress on accommodation fit out and connections.
On our Clarence Pier Playing Field compound, we have erected fencing to the perimeter of the DIO sports field to our sub-frontage one compound at Clarence Pier carpark. This will avoid site traffic using Long Curtain Road which will improve safety for the general public.
