Week six update – 16 October 2020

The sun’s out so we’re heading to the beach!

This week saw a section of Southsea Promenade close in readiness for us moving in plant and equipment to form an access ramp to the beach. We have completed stripping the topsoil on our Pier Road compound and are now getting ready to store materials and set up the project offices.

We had another visit from Historic England to view masonry samples for the new sea defence walls. Discussions are continuing.

Next week will see us starting timber groyne removal and continuing our ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey on the beach. GPR works will also be conducted on the promenade and nearby sports pitches. Wessex Archaeology will conduct site surveys and inspections of the area to ensure our works do not impact on any historic structures.

From October 19, we will be setting up noise and vibration monitoring equipment.
