Week nine update – 6 November 2020

She’s here! After being delayed due to bad weather, the Sospan Dau dredging vessel finally made our shores on Thursday 5 November to spend five days spraying around 5,000m3 of gravel onto the foreshore between Clarence Pier and the Spur Redoubt. We are currently levelling the dredged material to form the eastern temporary working platform.

In the next 2-3 weeks, the Sospan Dau will place around 18,000m3 of material to create a second working platform between the Spur Redoubt and the Saluting Platform.

Still on the beach, we have removed the concrete ramp and started the break out and removal of the existing west revetment and concrete apron. We’ve also removed the broken section of cast iron outfall pipe from the beach.

Over at Clarence Pier Playing Field we continued stripping topsoil to form our materials recycling and processing area while importing, levelling and compacting stone to form a working area. No further structural remains were found!

Work continues on setting up our Pier Road primary compound as we move towards setting up a car park area, project offices and hoardings.
