Week 13 update – 4 December 2020

When you see the 80 tonne crane on our Clarence Pier carpark site, it really puts into perspective what a massive job we are undertaking! This week has involved us starting piling 17.6m steel sheet piles on the east side of the Spur Redoubt and we are making great progress with more than 50m installed. We've continued extracting old sheet piles to make way for the new sea defence structure, and this will continue next week. The start of piling is a major milestone for the Southsea Coastal Scheme as it is the first activity that will form part of the permanent defences. We expect to have piling finished on the eastern section by mid-December and are working additional hours to ensure we get it done as quickly as possible to avoid inconvenience to nearby residents and businesses. Next week we will also continue forming temporary works protection bund with broken out concrete from the old sea defences. It's all happening - and if you're interested in checking out our works at the Clarence Pier car park site, we're adding ‘windows’ into the hoarding so come on down and take a look. We've got the blues over on our Pier Road compound with new blue hoarding erected around the site perimeter. New site hoarding boards are coming soon to provide plenty of information about the Scheme. Also on this site, our accommodation fit out and services connections continue ready for what we hope will be a much happier new year in January 2021.
