NEWS RELEASE: Come and meet the Southsea Coastal Scheme team

12 October 2017 – For Immediate Release

Come and meet the Southsea Coastal Scheme team

Residents from across Portsmouth are invited to come and meet the team behind the Southsea Coastal Scheme at a series of public events, following the previous consultation in 2014. The scheme is responsible for delivering new flood defences along 4.5km of seafront, from Old Portsmouth to Eastney, to help protect Southsea from major flood events.

The ambition is to create new defences that embrace everything we all love about the seafront. The work will transform the seafront for future generations, while protecting homes and the heritage that is so important to the people of Portsmouth. It also aims to stimulate further regeneration in Southsea and create a more vibrant place for businesses, visitors and residents.

At these events, the public will able to find out why this work needs to be carried out and see the research that has been undertaken which has led to the outline concept for the defences. There will also be some initial sketches of design ideas, and residents will have a chance to give their feedback.

Cllr Robert New, Portsmouth City Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety said: “With designers now on board and beginning their work, we think that this is an ideal opportunity to invite residents to come and meet the team who will be delivering these vital new defences, which will protect over 8000 homes from future flood events. They’ll also be able to discuss their aspirations for the seafront, which will help shape the proposed designs”

The events will take place on the following dates:
• Eastney Community Centre: 25 October 2017, 1pm-8pm
• Canoe Lake Tennis Pavilion: 27 October, 1pm-8pm & 28 October 2017, 10am-5pm
• Royal Naval Club & Royal Albert Yacht Club: 31 October 2017, 1pm-8pm
• Cosham Baptist Church: 1 November 2017, 1pm-8pm
• Fratton Community Centre: 3 November 2017, 1pm-8pm

These will be followed by consultation events on the full design proposals in early 2018. Please visit to keep up to date with future developments.
