Meet the Team: Gavin Holder
Environment Team Leader – Coastal Partners
I joined the Coastal Partnership in 2011 and have since developed an environmental team of seven Officers, which I lead. We support projects across the Partnership; from inputting environmental advice to Coastal Management Policy through to developing Environmental Impact Assessments that are required to obtain Licenses and Consents for our Coastal Management Works. We have the ability to undertake specialist habitat surveys and are also leading a variety of environmental research projects to better understand the impacts and management of our works.
Prior to joining the Coastal Partnership I grew up in the Vale of Evesham, the horticultural centre of the Midlands, and then moved down to Portsmouth to study Geographical Sciences at the University of Portsmouth in 2001. Having focused my studies on Coastal and Environmental topics I went on to study a Masters in Coastal and Marine Resource Management. During my Masters I also worked at Chichester District Council, firstly as an Environmental Protection Technician, followed by Coastal and Land Drainage Officer. Whilst at Chichester I inputted to the development of coastal policy and helped advise the development of the Medmerry Managed Realignment scheme, which offered improved flood protection to the adjacent community as well creating a significant area of intertidal habitat.
Outside of work I am a keen horticulturalist and have 22ft of greenhouse in Southsea, containing my collection of rare Carnivorous Pitcher Plants.
