FINAL DESIGN UNDERWAY
The area along South Parade Pier and Canoe Lake is currently still in its final design stage. Work here is scheduled to begin in spring 2027.
This means that our design team are working with specialists, coastal engineers and the contractor to work out how the proposed design can be best implemented to create a functioning sea defence that works for all in this specific area.
Construction will run from spring 2027 to winter 2028. Changes will include:
• Creating a new shingle beach to form the primary defence.
• Raising of the promenade with a setback secondary defence wall between Speakers’ Corner and Canoe Lake.
• Existing, deteriorated wall from Canoe Lake onwards removed and replaced by a new setback secondary defence wall built on the opposite side of the road (up to St George Rd).
• Enhanced promenade including a two-way cycle lane.
