Failure of defences
6th April 2018
We are pleased to let the public know that the emergency works being undertaken to repair the sea defence failure near the Naval War Memorial are now fully complete, and the promenade is back open to the public.
The project was managed by the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership (ESCP) on behalf of Portsmouth City Council. ESCP worked with contractors Knights Brown to rebuild the sea defences, and once that was complete, Colas came in to reinstate the promenade. The rapid response from all parties means that the works were completed and opened to the public just 7 weeks after the failure occurred.
We have also deployed a small number of the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership’s tracer pebbles to continue to monitor beach migration along the section of frontage, which will help to inform the design of new sea defences in the area in the future.
